Case Study: Indoor Mapping & Wayfinding
You‘ve arrived at your destination, but do you really know where you’re going? Mapping apps have gotten quite good at getting us from address to address, but that’s often only part of the journey. How do you navigate from your parking garage, out one of many exits, and into a building with multiple floors and suites?
City Tech Collaborative partnered with HERE Technologies
to create a digital map of Millennium Garages,
the largest enclosed parking system in the U.S. and key link to Chicago’s central business and tourist district. In addition to developing a high-definition digital map, the team developed a data-sharing and ownership framework that allowed the maps to be integrated into HERE’s platform as well as third-party mapping applications. Together, City Tech and partners have created the foundation necessary for collaboration, map and application development, community engagement to improve downtown navigability, and provide a model for solution scaling.
